so earlier this year my 71 year old active father had a first stroke in March he was in the hospital for two weeks sent home and was doing well. I purchased a new iPad application this week. It allows the user to touch an icon to speak 50 important words, phrases, or sentences. A great feature is that you get to select the voice you want to use from a large range of ages and dialects. You can also turn on/off phrases and the icons rescale to fill the page.
